Lessons

Horseback riding lessons for all levels of riders.

Horseback riding is as varied as people. Our main objective is to teach the skills that will enable each rider to pursue their own goals throughout a lifetime of horseback riding. Our emphasis is always on developing control and communication with the horse n a safe manner.

Regular horseback riding lessons

These lessons are for ages 9 through adult with basic skills to control a horse. We like to mix skill levels so newer riders can see what more experienced riders do and what they need to learn. Classes are never more than a 5-1 ratio of riders to instructor.

Lessons last about an hour and a half including 45 minutes on the horse. Instruction at the start of the lesson incudes getting a horse from pasture, care for the horse and feet, saddling and bridling. At the end of the lesson it includes untacking the horse, care of the horse and tack, and returning the horse to pasture.

Young Riders

Horseback riding lessons for 4-8 year olds

For horseback riding students who are old enough to move forward and learn how to control a horse. These classes are designed to start students on their lifelong love of horses. We work on patience and determination, learning that sometimes you have to try more than once to succeed at something you want to do.

Lessons last about an hour and 30 minutes on the horse. Instruction at the start of the lesson incudes care for the horse and feet, saddling and bridling with help as needed. At the end of the lesson it includes untacking the horse, care of the horse and tack.

Private Lessons

Horseback riding lessons for any age and any level.

Unlike many barns, we do not charge for private lessons if you or your child happen to be the only one in the class. However, other students may join the lesson in later weeks. Even if you experience a private lesson for several weeks, you still only pay for a regular lesson. But you may be joined by other students at any time.

Private lessons insure that you or your child will ALWAYS be the only rider in that lesson and that no other rider will be using the ring at that time. This might be important for very timid riders, or for those who want the undivided attention of the instructor. However, because the time must be blocked out, lessons are paid for by the month because you are purchasing a block of the instructor's time. If you miss or cancel the lesson, you may talk to the instructor and make arrangements to make up the lesson with a group lesson, but there are no refunds for a week you have missed because the block of time has been held for you.

Mommy/Daddy and Me

Horseback riding for 3-5 year olds.

Developed in conjunction with a physical therapist with input from educators, this class promotes strong development in young children. It is not designed to teach them to ride independently

Goals for this class are:

  • Strengthen core
  • Improve balance
  • Promote a love of animals
  • Develop trust
  • Promote a bond between parent and child
  • Teach self-confidence
  • Increase self-esteem and positive thinking

Ride and Dine

Horseback riding group for adult women.

Quilting Bees, Book Clubs, NOPE! This is a group of active adult women who like to ride, chat and share. Starts on Thursday at 6:00. Please let Tammy know if your are planning on attending. We go out to dinner after we ride. All riding levels are welcome.

Horse Show team

For those wanting to show horses or wanting to find out more about showing horses.

There is no cost to be on the team but riders must qualify and pay entry fees and show expenses.  Talk to Tammy if you are interested.

Although we don't require our riders to show, we have a full show schedule. Visiting a show where we are participating is always encouraged. This year we will be hosting "starter" shows that are designed for beginner riders. These will be held at the farm and the shows will include BSHA sanctioned classes. Volunteers are always welcome.

Don't know where to start? Call or text Tammy (434) 996 6993

If there is no answer, text. There is poor reception in the indoor arena and messages are not set up since we never listen to them.
